Why Doubling is the Wrong Goal

Why Doubling is the Wrong Goal by Introverted Visionary

So you want to grow your practice – sounds great.

I hear from acupuncturists, chiropractors, naturopathic doctors, and functional medicine practitioners like you all the time that they want to…

  • See more patients
  • Make more money
  • Have more freedom or a better work/life balance

All really great goals to have, and many practitioners think that by trying to just grow more and make more money, it will happen organically. Unfortunately, that doesn’t always happen very well for everyone.

Some practitioners set more concrete goals. Oftentimes, when I ask practitioners, “How many of you would like to double your income?” Many will raise their hands.

While doubling can be an inspiring goal, focusing on doubling can actually make it harder to get there.

In this post, let me share with you the pitfalls I personally have experienced that come with focusing on doubling, what a 10x strategy is and why you should use it instead. So let’s get started.

Ok, so why not doubling?

Focus on doubling is challenging, especially when most people think about doubling they are usually thinking about, “What have I done up until now?” and then just think about doubling from there.

But consider this. If you want to double – what about thinking about a 10x growth plan instead?

This will help you whether you have a desire to make your first 6 figures or to scale from 6 to 7 figures.

The idea is looking at how you can 10x the impact, 10x the freedom, 10x the flexibility, 10x the income. Map out what a 10x plan is and then work your way backwards into a doubling plan, everything becomes easier. Even if you don’t have a desire to ever reach 10x, it is easier to work backwards from that end goal to increase your business now, rather than doing what I call “working in the rearview mirror” by trying to double your efforts from where you started. Make sense?

Pitfalls of Doubling

I know you’re probably thinking, “I am already too busy and it seems like a lot of work already to grow or double, trying to double, what on earth do you mean scale-up tenfold? That sounds outrageous.”

Well it’s not – because by focusing on doing the same thing you’ve been doing over and over to try and double, you are sticking yourself in a box of repetition, not innovation.

You are closing yourself off to new growth opportunities that you may not have considered before.

And think about this – say you do manage to double and in another few years you want to grow again. Do you want to be doing the same grind you are now all over again or be using a strategy that has been working for you for years in order to grow your practice with ease?

So What Exactly is a 10x Strategy and Is It For You?

In a nutshell, a 10x strategy is a forward-thinking plan that is uniquely designed for you and your practice – because no two businesses are the same. We all have unique goals.

Even if you don’t want to grow your business by 10 times, by changing up your mindset around growth, it gives you new perspectives and opportunities to surround yourself with the people who will help you grow. It shifts your mindset from thinking that doubling is going to be almost impossible, to thinking outside the box of the likely constraints you’ve put on your possibility if you were to just think about doubling.

I want to quickly tell you about a client of ours who used this strategy.

She had her own private practice, but still worked at another job, because despite working like crazy, she was still in the red in her private practice. After working with us through the 6-Figure Speaking Makeover Mentorship for Introverts, she was able to quit her side job. The first big win.

The second big win was in her first year of the Introverted Visionaries 6-Figures Plus Mastermind, she made over $200,000 and then co
