What is the quickest way to double your clients AND credibility in the next 48 days? Hint: There’s only one other way that’s as good as this way.
It’s not going to another networking event, standing in front of a booth and losing another Saturday of your life, or putting a deal out there on Groupon.
It’s not getting yourself out there on social media, investing in a better website, or trying ad after ad that doesn’t get the results you were hoping for.
It’s doing talks. The only other way to establish credibility as easily is through referrals, because it can bypass the need for you to market yourself well. But if referrals are not happening fast enough for you, then consider doing talks.
It’s one of the fastest ways to be seen as a go-to expert, and one of the simplest ways to double your patient/client flow in a short period of time.
Are you starting to wonder if you should use this approach now to grow your practice quickly? You might be thinking—where do I start? Or if you’ve been doing talks already, you might be thinking to yourself: “people come up to me and tell me how great the talk was and I hand out a lot of cards, but I don’t get that many clients from it. It feels like a lot of effort for very few clients. I guess it takes time to get clients from a talk …when they decide to call me.” And that day never comes.
You are not alone. Doing talks without a strategy that works to get clients is a common mistake. Many holistic practitioners are good at showing up as an expert when giving talks. But that’s helpful only if you want to be popular, not if you want more clients/patients.
Here are the 3 most common mistakes holistic practitioners make when giving talks, and what to do instead that can double your client/patient base in the next 48 days:
Mistake #1: Giving an informative talk, but not having a proven way to turn the audience into paying clients/patients. Ready for this mistake to be a thing of the past?
Secret #1. Design a talk that inspires potential clients to:
- naturally decide to book with you on the spot, or
- do something that will lead to booking with you on the spot.
All without being pushy.
The key is to create a strategically designed talk that leads to more clients, not like a lecture you may put together for school. On the flip side, have you ever listened to a talk, and it was such great information…but then at the end, it felt like the speaker was just trying to sell you something?
Let’s face it—you don’t like it when someone’s pushy. And it’s not a good feeling to come across as being pushy. Don’t worry…breathe a sigh of relief that you don’t have to be someone like that. There is a way to give a talk that is both informative AND inspires people to book with you on the spot (it’s something I’ve personally dedicated the last several years to mastering and you can do it too).
I can still remember one talk I did where I had spent all this time getting people together for it. While I was giving it, I was happy with it but afterwards, I felt rather discouraged. People told me it was a great talk, but the number of clients I got from it (and my bank account) sure didn’t seem to reflect that. I started to doubt myself and my abilities as a speaker. I thought…what can I do? Maybe this talk just doesn’t work for my audience and maybe I need to change up my talk.
But then came the unexpected. I turned around and did the same talk in front of a different audience that was referred to me. I had the highest conversions to clients I’ve ever had from that talk. Sometimes it’s the wrong places you’re speaking at, not your talk that’s the main issue. Are you giving your talks at places like your local health food store, or are you going where most of your favorite clients would be at?

Secret #2: Credibility & clients happen faster when you give talks in front of a very targeted audience that trusts the host. One example: If you’re an acupuncturist, chiropractor, naturopath, massage therapist, energy/spiritual healer, or health coach, you could be booking talks in front of an audience that can refer you clients (ie, MDs, NDs), instead of doing talks at Whole Foods or your own office. If you use this strategy, it’s important to design a talk that not only impresses the audience with your expertise but one that makes it easy for them to refer clients to you (sorry, just saying “refer your patients to me” during the talk doesn’t work).
How do you get the attention of Dr’s offices or specific organizations to give you the time of day and want to bring you in for a talk? Isn’t it disappointing to make calls and not hear back?
Secret #3: Have a way that works to get your foot in the door. Use an approach that works to get your foot in the door. There are simple things you can do and that will have the right audience book you for a talk in one phone call. Certain things you can do beforehand, during, and afterwards that will increase your chances of getting booked by 80% (even as an introvert). It doesn’t even have to be you who gets your foot in the door. You can even hire someone on your staff to do it for you. You just need to know what to say.
Getting clients from a talk can be easy, and one of the fastest ways to attract a flow of people to your practice.
