Before You Say, “I Can’t Swing It Right Now,” Read This
One of the most common things I hear from practitioners is, “I want to do this, but I just can’t swing it right now.” (it’s a money thing)
I’ve heard that sentence so many times over the years.
And every time I do, I find myself wondering the same thing.
How can two practitioners with remarkably similar practices, similar incomes, similar fears, and similar challenges make completely different decisions…and end up with completely different businesses a few years later?
One decides they simply can’t swing it.
The other says,
“I’m going to do this. I’m going to figure it out.”
That difference has fascinated me for years.
Because after helping thousands of holistic practitioners, I’ve come to realize something.
For some practitioners, the moment money seems like an obstacle, it becomes the answer.
That’s the difference.
The practitioners who eventually grow amazing practices don’t necessarily start with more money or have fewer obstacles.
What they seem to have is a different relationship with money & obstacles.
They simply don’t let the money obstacle become the final answer.
Sometimes that means taking a leap even when it brings up discomfort or fear.
Sometimes it means getting creative.
Sometimes it requires admitting that staying where you are has a cost too.
Sometimes it requires courage.
And recognizing that the future they’re trying to build deserves a different kind of decision-making than the business they have today.
If you continue making decisions from the limitations of today’s practice, you’ll keep recreating the same results.
(*what got you here isn’t what will get you to where you want to go)
The solution looks different for everyone.
But the thinking is similar.
On the other hand, I’ve watched practitioners end the conversation with,
“I can’t swing it.”
A year later, they’re saying the same thing.
Not because they didn’t work hard.
Not because they weren’t committed.
Most were.
They tried new things.
They kept looking for answers.
But their financial situation hadn’t changed enough to make the next opportunity feel any easier.
They still couldn’t swing it.
That’s what I find so interesting.
Because it wasn’t one decision that kept them where they were.
It was a pattern.
The money obstacle became the conclusion…
again.
And again.
Our lives are shaped by the patterns behind our decisions.
And if “I can’t swing it” or “I can’t afford it”, becomes the automatic response whenever growth requires discomfort in the way of money, your future is quietly being negotiated by your present circumstances.
Many people who become very successful practitioners don’t usually get there because they waited until they had the money. More often, they had a higher tolerance for temporary financial discomfort when they believed something aligned with where they want to go.
Different decisions lead to different futures.
So instead of,
“Can I swing it?”
The better question is,
“How can I make this possible?”
“If I fully believed it would work out, what would I do?”
And you will start to see expansiveness in your practice, in your being, in your possibility open up in a whole other way that you haven’t experienced before.
