Hitting 7 figures as an acupuncturist, chiropractor, naturopathic doctor, or functional medicine practitioner is an amazing goal to have. It means being able to help more people and make a bigger impact while getting handsomely rewarded financially for it. But many practitioners get sucked into doing everything themselves, have trouble hiring the right people to help them, or get stuck when patients always ask for them even when they try to hire someone else.

That is why in this blog post, I’m going through what you need to start thinking about if you want to hit 7 figures. 

Let me guess – you do it all, so why hire?

I know so many in the healthcare field do it all themselves. Many struggle with feeling the pressure to do it all because nobody can provide service like them. They want to be hands-on with all their patients and have a hard time letting go of that control. 

I totally get it. But if you want to grow, then it’s time for a bit of a business trust fall. 

I’m talking about hiring a great team with your same vision:  one that you can really leverage, so you can step back and do less. It’s admirable that you want to do everything yourself because you care about your patients and want them to have the best. But what happens when something unexpected comes up and you can’t be there?

Having your practice set up that can still operate when you’re not there will not only help you generate income on days you can’t be as hands-on as you’d maybe want to be, but it will also set up your patients so they don’t have to do without when you’re away. It’s a win-win for everyone.

Plus, when you do find that dream team that can support you into moving into that leadership role vs a “doer” role, you can start to see fewer patients if you want to. That means you now  finally have the time to take your business in those new, exciting directions that you’ve maybe been thinking about for years.

Now let’s talk about cutting back

Are there things that you are spending too much time on that are taking up time that you don’t need to be spending doing yourself? Admin, billing, cleaning…or maybe you’ve got that part handled but what about the different “gadgets” you’ve purchased that aren’t being utilized fully because people don’t know about it? You know what I mean…the spinal decompression table, infrared sauna, the LipoLight, foot bath, hyperbaric oxygen chamber, massage chair, etc..the stuff someone suggested you buy to help more people with but which are just taking up space in your clinic.

Either get the word out more about it, or just cut it. Sometimes when growing, it’s about simplifying vs having a bunch of different offerings or gadgets.

Or for some of you, choosing to expand into functional medicine, stem cell, or adding a team of integrative providers may actually be something that takes you away from your core business and distracts you from what you do best. You may find me saying that surprising, because I’m all about going for your it with what you’re passionate about. But one size doesn’t fit all. For some of you, I recommend going into other interests right now; for others, it may not be a smart move in this moment because you may have too much going on. We may need to simplify before you expand.

So start thinking about what you could stand to lose in order to gain yourself 7 figures. 

One last thing…

I know a lot of practitioners shy away from the idea of seeing patients less often, and I am not saying give it up! You got into your field because you love working with patients. 

If you create a structure that allows patients to still be treated if you’re not there, then the business can run on its own and you can still see those patients when you’re there! It’s not an all-or-nothing system. 

The same thing goes for hiring your team and simplifying. Nothing is concrete and it can take time to find the right people and the right level of simplifying that make your business flourish. 

But if you don’t start thinking about it, then you’re stuck doing more for less, instead of the other way around.
